On the vast semi-arid expanses of the Causse de Sauveterre,not far from the legendary Florac 160km trail,the Ecuries du Sauveterre Arab Endurance Stud Farm is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary!

Jean Basset had the foresight to bring together three Grandes Dames (Diardob, Jerezana and Dja'lah) who gave great influence and success to this emblematic stud farm of Persikland endurance horses. He managed  to keep the best youngsters, and entrust them, at the right time, to experienced riders, resulting in immediate success ! (see results).

Today,Jean and Dany watch over the prospects of about thirty of the descendants of these endurance foundation genes worthy of bearing the suffix Sauveterre of their predecessors...

 Three "Grandes Dames" were brought together to produce their best and establish the stud farm's reputation: DJA'LAH, JEREZANA and DIARDOB.  And still today, although JEREZANA is the only one still alive and breeding, their progeny has taken over, along with TEQUIA who has also produced some very good performers!

 Everybody knows DJA'LAH, a monument to the discipline!

She is the dam of the champion DYNAMIK, of winners AL'KOUM and ADARA, of the stallions TANGO d'AYRES and ROCO ibn PERSIK (all by Persik) ; her last offspring - PERSEE as a broodmare and REVE as a stallion and we hope a future champion- will continue this fantastic lineage.

JEREZANA is a real Arabian with class and beauty. At the ripe age of 25 and having foaled 17 times, she is now the stud'matriarch. 9 of her progeny have been placed in races of 120 km and more. Three are winners (Magida at Florac, Soraya at( Guerledan and Jeloua at Chanac).

What more is there to say? She is expecting a foal by REVE de SAUVETERRE in 2011 ...  

The breeder's special favourite DIARDOB (1983-2005) was also the dam of champions (Djamila du Mas by Arzew and Menkab al Faysset by Persik),and her presence continues through her daughters KALIMA Sauveterre and AZIA bint Diardob,whose progenies are looking very promising!

Finally TEQUIA,the "little Spanish lady" who has what it takes to be a Grande Dame-she continues to astonish us (her foal by Persik,JAFAR,was reserve World Champion of 7/8 year-olds in 2004).Her first foal,ANTARES Sauveterre, now aged 15, won the two stages of the Ladies' Cup(28th February and 20th March 2009) ridden by the reigning World Champion, Maria Alvarez Ponton,at over 27km/h!
